When to use it

Choosing the unit
Word points at the exact words that changed inside a sentence and suits contracts and prose. Line shows added and removed lines with line numbers and suits lists, code and tables. Character catches single-letter typos.
Ignore whitespace
Ignores indentation and repeated spaces introduced by pasting, so only the wording counts. Turn it off for code where indentation matters.

Tips for common situations
Switch to Line Mode for Policy Clauses
When reviewing updated terms or privacy notices, select Line mode to display numbered lines side by side. The addition and deletion counts let you quickly gauge the scope of the revision before reading each clause.
Enable Ignore Whitespace for Code Diffs
Comparing configuration files often flags indentation changes as false differences. Turn on Ignore Whitespace to filter out tab-versus-space noise and focus on actual value modifications.
Track Vocabulary Changes in Translations
Use the default Word mode to isolate replaced terms and expressions between a rough translation and its final proofread. Switch to Character mode when you need to catch spelling corrections, punctuation edits, or spacing adjustments at the letter level.

How long can the text be?
Tens of thousands of characters are fine. Very long inputs fall back to line mode automatically.

Usually different line endings (Windows vs. Mac) or full-width spaces. Try 'Ignore whitespace'.
Can I compare text differences by line or by individual character?
